A delayed flight can be a major inconvenience and a great source of stress. When a flight is delayed, it can throw off your travel plans and cause you to arrive at your destination later than expected. This can be especially frustrating if you have a tight schedule or if you’re traveling for an important event, such as a business meeting or a family reunion. It’s also bad news when you’re following a strict itinerary. You will also have to spend additional hours sitting in an airport or on a plane, waiting for the situation to be resolved. This can be boring and tedious and can make it difficult to stay productive or entertained.

I personally hate delayed flights. Who doesn’t? But it’s inevitable and all we can do is think of something to pass the time and ease out all the angst whenever we get caught in this situation. In this blog, let me share 5 of the things I do while waiting for a delayed flight.

(1) Listen to music or an audiobook

Listening to music or an audiobook can be a good way to pass the time and improve your overall well-being while stuck at an airport waiting for your flight. Music has been shown to have a number of positive effects on the mind and body, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood, and enhancing cognitive function. Listening to music can also help to improve focus and concentration, making it a useful tool for studying or working.

Another benefit of listening to music or an audiobook is that it can provide entertainment and distraction. When you’re listening to a song or a story, you’re more likely to be engaged and absorbed in the experience, which can help make the time pass more quickly and make a boring or tedious situation more enjoyable. Additionally, it can help to stimulate your imagination and creativity, which can be especially beneficial for people who are easily stressed and are looking for inspiration to keep their minds off their predicament.

(2) Talk to fellow passengers

Talking to people, including strangers, can have a number of benefits. One of them is that it can help to improve social connections and build relationships. When you talk to someone, you’re sharing information and ideas, which can help create a sense of connection and understanding. This can be especially beneficial for people who are feeling lonely or isolated, as it can provide a sense of community and support. It’s exactly what you needed during a delayed flight. To know that you’re not alone in such a shitty situation.

In addition to its social and communication benefits, talking to people can also have cognitive benefits. When you talk to someone, you’re engaging in active listening, which can improve concentration and focus. This will help deal with stress or anxiety, as it can aid in quieting your mind and staying present in the moment.  The last thing you need during a delayed flight is another mountain of unnecessary thinking.

(3) Get some work done

Getting work done during a delayed flight can be a good way to make the most of the extra time and stay productive. When your flight is delayed, you may have to spend additional hours sitting in an airport or on a plane, waiting for the situation to be resolved. This can be a frustrating and stressful experience, so instead of brooding over it, it’s best to work on something useful. I, personally, like to fire up my laptop and write on my blog. This helps take my mind off things since I’m easily irritated.

If you have work that can be done on a laptop or tablet, a delayed flight can be a good opportunity to get it done without the usual distractions and interruptions.  When you’re focused on your work, you’re more likely to be engaged and absorbed in it, which can help to distract you from the frustrating situation and reduce stress.  This can also help you to feel more in control of the situation, which can be greatly beneficial if you’re feeling anxious or uncertain.

(4) Catch up on sleep

Flying can be stressful, and delays can make the experience even more frustrating. By getting some sleep, you can relax and focus on something else, which can help take your mind off the delay and make the time pass more quickly. Sleeping while waiting for your flight will make you feel more rested and alert when you arrive at your destination. If you are traveling for work or other important activities, being well-rested can help you perform at your best. It can also help you enjoy your trip or vacation more, as you will have more energy to explore your surroundings and take part in fun activities.

(5) Play Games

Playing games during a delayed flight can be a great way to pass the time and keep yourself entertained. It can help you relax and take your mind off the stress brought by the delay. Games provide a welcome distraction and allow you to focus on something enjoyable, which can reduce your anxiety and frustration.  It engages your mind and keeps it active, which can prevent boredom and mental fatigue. Many games, such as puzzles and brainteasers, can challenge your cognitive skills and help you stay mentally sharp.

I love playing games, especially on my mobile. My favorites are Mobile Legends and Genshin Impact but lately, I’m getting addicted to money games in Mortgage Calculator. Most of the games use mortgage calculations and real estate concepts as part of their gameplay. These games often involve buying and selling properties, managing budgets, and making decisions about financing and mortgages.

As enjoyable as buying/selling properties was, I was totally swooned by the game called Coffee Shop. I had so much fun pretending to be a coffee shop owner and running my own coffee business. I find it interesting how the decisions I make affect my earnings. This game gave me an overview of what it’s like to run an inventory such as deciding which component of my product should I prioritize. Setting the right price to drive sales while not compromising returns was one thing I found really challenging. This game taught me that when you fail one day then you can make better decisions the next.

There you have it, lovelies! Do you guys have any tips on how to deal with frustrating flight delays? Share them in the comments. Until next time. Ciao!
